On Sunday morning, October ninth, 2016 we lost the most gracious, thoughtful, and loving man any of us will ever know, when he was granted a passing infinitely more peaceful and happy than any of us had any right to expect. After fifty-seven years of racing from adventure-to-adventure while inspiring countless others to do the same, and one last morning filled with tender kindness with his perfect soul-mate and best friend Darla Jeanne Miller Powell, Ricky Dean Powell laid back down for a nap in the home we've shared so many stories in, and raced off to his next adventure. Born in Uvalde, Texas, on January twenty-seventh, 1959, he leaves behind his loving wife-of-thirty-seven-years; his brothers Randy, Robby, Ronny, Ray, and Russell Powell and their wives, Maria, Michelle, Maria, and Jennifer for whom he would have given anything; his parents Leon and Marilyn Powell, who inspired him to inspire us; nieces and nephews who thought of him as much as a father as an uncle; a doting newlywed-daughter-in-law, whom he loved as a daughter, Elizabeth Ashley McGee Powell; and a devoted son, Joshua Miller Powell, who will never stop missing him, or wondering: 'What would Ricky do?' As importantly, he leaves behind tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of other people whose lives he shaped and brightened many of whom may never even know the millions of good things he did to ensure the best experience for every friend, guest, or patient who walked through his doors. We love you so much Ricky, and we know you're waiting for us, just around the next bend. In lieu of flowers, ride a bike, shoot a gun, love each other.
