Jerome T. "Jerry" Morgan

OLEAN - Jerry Morgan, of Olean, passed away Saturday (Oct. 1, 2016) at Olean General Hospital, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Jerry was born June 11, 1945, in Bradford, Pa., to Maurice and Katherine Thomas Morgan, who predeceased him.

He married Marianne Vena on July 10, 1976, at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marianne; his son, Michael; a daughter-in-law, Wendi; two grandchildren, his ""honey-bunches"" Samantha and Gregory; and many loving cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother, James Morgan.

Jerry and Marianne celebrated 40 years of marriage this year, renewing their vows before cherished friend and pastor Father Gregory Dobson and concelebrated by cherished friend Father David Tourville.

A graduate of Smethport High School in 1963, Clarion University in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in education and St. Bonaventure University with a master's degree in education, Jerry was an elementary teacher at Ivers J. Norton Elementary School, Dugan Elementary School and Washington West Elementary, all of Olean.

Jerry was a loving, caring educator, and after touching the lives of his students for 33 years, he retired in 2000. He was humbled and proud to have been named Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the 2000 graduating class at Olean High School.

In his 71 years of life, Jerry enjoyed being an active parishioner of St. Mary of the Angels Parish in Olean and served as eucharistic minister, parish council secretary and member of the festival committee.

Jerry was the co-author of Olean Past & Present Textbook, ""editor-in-chief"" of the Fourth Grade Express, a member of the Olean Teachers' Association, a ""den mother"" of the Boy Scouts Webelos (fourth and fifth grades), a member of Olean Historical Society and a loyal member of the Mickey Mouse Club.

He enjoyed his pool and flowers, trips to Disney World, his cars and trucks, and ""dinner club"" with his friends.

Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.

"May Jerry enjoy eternal rest in the peace and calmness of the presence of God."
