1821 was serving as Secretary of the Youth's Missionary Society (an organization for promoting the Gospel among seamen)

April 7, 1836 Married in New York to MARY ARCHER, daughter of Zeno Archer and Ann (nee McKenzie) Archer Olyphant.

In New York, William Orvin Bokee was a seaman and shipping merchant, engaging in trade with China and East Indies with his wife's half-brother, Robert Morrison Olyphant.

For a time, was a resident of Canton, China (1845-47)affiliated with the commercial house of Olyphant and Co., and also engaging in missionary work.

After the death of his wife in 1849, he relocated, along with his son David M., to San Francisco, California, where he set up a merchant house, (W.O.Bokee & Co., and Bokee, Delany & Co., and Bokee, Titcomb & Co.) and continued in overseas trade.

In 1851, he was an early member of the San Francisco Committee of Vigilance.

1857 took on position of Editor for "True Californian" after the resignation of W.Bartlett.

By 1858, he was in business as a bookkeeper, and 1861-62-63 W.O.Bokee is listed as bookkeeper with Barry & Patten.

On Nov.10, 1866 W.O.Bokee died at San Francisco.
