BURRIS, Nancy Lou (Hollinsworth) Our mom, wife, grand-mother, and best friend, Nancy Lou (Hollinsworth) Burris passed peacefully at Hospice House North of Spokane. After a hard fought battle with cancer, hospice staff provided support for both Nancy and her family by ably assisting in relieving her pain. Her family greatly appreciates the staff and their compassionate service. Following her terminal diagnosis 18 months ago, a concerted family effort was made to ensure Nancy could visit all family and friends via various events. The most special event was a family reunion held last November which included celebrating her 60th wedding anniversary with husband Clarence (Red). Soon after, a large family Christmas was held in Wenatchee at the new home of her son, Tim. February brought a new goal as she set her sights on greeting her fifth great-grandchild. In addition, Nancy was visited regularly by her children and their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous friends and relatives, and her Five Mile neighbors. Although ill, Nancy was always ready to put on a smile and practice her quick wit with anyone willing to spar with her. Maintaining friendships was especially important to Nancy. She kept closely connected with her "Round Robin Crew" made up of her Yakima Elementary School friends. Her favorite Alma Mater, WSU, provided her with a group of Cougar roommates and friends who have remained in contact for the past 65 years. In the mid-70s when Nancy and Red moved to Spokane, Nancy eagerly became a member of book clubs, swim groups, volunteer groups, and the American Association of University Women. Her most rewarding job was as a volunteer coordinator for the Spokane Chapter of the American Red Cross. As a result of these connections she actively supported a wide variety of community organizations. She is survived at the family home by her husband, Clarence (Red). Also in Spokane is her daughter, Jana McKnight, and husband, Wayne. In Wenatchee live her son, Tim Burris, and his wife, Sherri, along with four of her grandsons - Casey Burris, Dustin Crawford (Lauren and two great-grandsons), Cameron Crawford, and Jared Crawford. In Spokane she leaves behind two grandchildren - Holly Burris and Brandon Crawford. In the Seattle area she leaves three granddaughters - Chelsey Mam (Santavorn and one great-granddaughter), Kassie McKnight, Trisha Hurt (Charles and both a great-grandson and great-granddaughter), and great-grandniece, Alisse. In addition, she leaves behind two sisters-in-law, two nieces and four nephews. At her request, a private memorial will be held for family and friends.
