Apoplexy cause of sudden death

William M. Husted, a prominent and highly respected lifelong resident of Norwalk and the senior member of the firm of Husted & Friend, boot and shoe dealers at No. 36 East Main Street, died very suddenly at 7:15 o'clock Friday morning at his house, No. 16 South Garden Street, aged sixty-three years.

For years Mr. Husted had suffered from heart trouble and for several months had been in quite feeble health, although he spent a part of each day at his store, going there for what transpired to be the last time Thursday afternoon.

Friday morning Mr. Husted arose at the usual time and started to dress himself. He had only partly dressed when he returned to bed, remarking to Mrs. Husted that he was going to try to get a little more sleep. His head had scarcely touched the pillow, however, when he raised himself up in bed, fighting for breath. Mrs. Husted tried to assist him, but he was apparently helpless and could not speak. Greatly alarmed, Mrs. Husted summoned Dr. F.W. Schneerer by telephone. The physician repaired at once to the Husted home, but was unable to do anything for the dying man, who passed away about half an hour after the doctor reached his bedside. A stroke of apoplexy is given as the cause of his death.

William M. Husted was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Husted and was born in Norwalk on August 14, 1847. His father for a number of years sheriff of Huron County. With the exception of several years that he lived in Chicago while he was a young man, Mr. Husted's entire life was passed in Norwalk, where for many years he was engaged in the retail boot and shoe business.

On August 22, 1877, Mr. Husted was untied in marriage to Miss Ella L. Zeller of this city who, with one son, Donald Husted of Cleveland, survives him. One daughter, Ethel, died eighteen years ago at the age of eleven years. Mr. Husted was a member of a family of five brothers and two sisters, all but one of whom have preceded him to the grave. The surviving member of the family is Mrs. Julius H. Husted, a sister, who resides at Chicago.
