A former respected and well known Kansas pioneer died in Wisconsin, when Mrs. Margaret Bauers, formerly of Clay Center, KS, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. Jaeger, at Big Falls, Wisc., on December 31, 1926. She had been in poor health for several years. She was born in Bavaria, Germany, the 25th of September 1833. In the year 1850, she came to America with her parents, and two years later, in 1852, the deceased was united in marriage to Joseph Bauers of Galena, Ill. Following the impulse to move westward, the young couple took up a homestead claim near Broughton, Kansas. After years of hard labor and many privations, success crowned their hardships. Mr. Bauers died, leaving the widow to operate the homestead. In 1886, she retired from active work and made her home with her children. Since 1896, she has lived with her daughter, Mrs. D. Jaeger, at Bear Creek and Big Falls, Wisconsin. The following children survive her: John, of Algoa, Texas; Joseph, of Watertown, Wisconsin; Mrs. D. Jaeger, of Big Falls, Wisc., and Mrs. Katie Jaeger of Milwaukee, Wisc. Her age was 93 years, 3 months, and 6 days. Burial services were held January 4, 1927, and the body was laid to rest in Union Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
