Basil Manley Stedman died of wounds received several days earlier in Battle of Sharpsburg. He was serving as a Private in CSA Army and Enlisted in Company G, North Carolina 48th Infantry Regiment on 25 Apr 1862. His older brother died in the Battle of Malvern Hill on 1 Jul 1862, about 4 months prior to B. M.'s death.
