WILSHIRE – Catherine M., 'Katy', 91, of Ebensburg, and formerly of Patton, passed away peacefully September 14, 2016 at Amber Hills, Ebensburg. Born December 18, 1924 in Cresson, daughter of the late Leo A and Pauline (Garrett) Criste. Preceded in death by parents, her husband, Thomas R. Wilshire whom she married on August 27th, 1945 and enjoyed sixty two years of marriage; brothers, Gary and Melvin Criste, and sister Virginia Stein. Survived by children: Pollyanna (Dr. Robert) Peppetti, Cresson; Kathryn (Richard) Rydze, Pittsburgh; and Janet (James) Kupchella, Johnstown; ten grandchildren: Jon (Nikki) Peppetti, Jennifer (Corey) Nagle, Joel (Melissa) Peppetti, Cassy (Will) Thomeier, Tyson, Dustin & Abby Rydze, Jessica (Adrian) Ranck, Nicholas Kupchella and Sam (Megan) Kupchella; and nine great-grandchildren with one more on the way. Sister of Donald Criste, Martinsburg, Pa.; LaVerne (Paul) Schraf, Ohio; and Nadine (Ted) Holtz, Florida. Also survived by sisters- in-law: Betty (Ray) Bradley, Delaware, Agnes Wilshire, and Janet Criste and numerous nieces and nephews. Katywasamember of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, where she had served as an offertory counter. She enjoyed playing Bingo and sewing. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Monsignor David Lockard, celebrant. The family will receive friends in the church’s Narthax beginning at 10:00 a.m. that same morning. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Patton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Katy’s memory may be made to the John Paul II Manor Activities Fund, 856 Cambria St, Cresson, PA 16630, where she enjoyed residence prior to her time at Amber Hills. Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.
