Swedish entrepreneur. Known as Hasse (pronounced Hah-seh), he was one of Sweden's most successful and powerful show business impresarios, the CEO of his own company Wallmans Nöjen (Wallman's Fun Things), started in 1956, which owned several restaurants and nightclubs not only in Sweden. He was also a composer, producer-director of shows and an author. He provided venues for big Swedish stars like Kjerstin Dellert and Lill-Babs and also brought the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to his Swedish stages. He was trained at a reputable school of advertising and by 1965 ran publicity for Elektra Records while simultaneously heading promotional activity for Stockholm's famous Gröna Lund amusement park (1961-1968). Venues, theaters and hotels he lorded over were among the most well known in the country and numbered no fewer than 10, among them Betty Hutton's former yacht, today a moored hotel in Stockholm's Old Town under the name of Lake Mälar Queen. He also had nightclubs in Copenhagen and Oslo. He developed a concept new to his audiences where waiters and waitresses served tables and also did a full nightclub cabaret. In 1991 he was awarded the prestigious Guldmasken for his entertainment work, was named Stockholm's company owner of the year for 2000, and was given the Albert Bonnier Prize for business owners in 2003. He retired in 2009 and then sold his direct holdings but retained control over the use of his name in the large and still successful company which continues to run many of the restaurants. He was killed when he ended up under his horse in a riding accident near his oceanfront estate in Värmdö, east of Stockholm. He and his wife had a son and a daughter.
