Film director. Amos Guttman was born in Transylvania, but emigrated to Israel when he was 7 years old.

He attended the Beit Zvi School for the Performing Arts in Ramat Gan, Israel.

He started his career by directing three short films from 1977 to 1982, A Safe Place, Returning Premiers, and Drifting.

In 1983, he directed his first feature film, Drifting (no connection to the earlier film).

He would go on to direct three more movies, Bar 51 (1985), Himmo Melech Yerushalaim (1987), and Amazing Grace (1992).

With the exception of Himmo Melech Yerushalaim (a film about the Israeli War of Independence), Guttman's films mostly dealt with issues of homosexuality and AIDS.

In 1993, he died of AIDS complications at the age of 38.
