Edward Lee Horton, 72, a resident of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, passed away August 7, 2016 in Torrance Memorial Hospital. He was born in Fort Worth, TX on May 16, 1944 to the late Edith and Marshall Horton of Arbuckle, CA. Lee attended Pierce Joint Union High School where he played football. After graduating, he attended Texas A&M and UCSB where he earned a BS degree in biochemistry in 1967. He was inducted into the Army at Fort Lewis, WA and moved to armor school at Fort Knox, KY. He began basic helicopter training in Fort Walters, TX. He then married Jeanne Louise Quinn of Orinda, CA on June 29, 1968 at Alameda Naval Air Station. He was sent to Fort Rucker, AL for secondary flight training and received his wings in 1969. Lee was then deployed to Vietnam as part of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He was awarded the Silver Star, The Bronze Star with oak clusters, the Flying Medal, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. In 1970 he was honorably discharged from the Army and began Southwestern School of Law in Los Angeles where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1973. He began his law career at the Belcher, Henzie, and Bieganzahn law firm in Los Angeles. He moved to Waller Lansdown, Dortch, and Davis, a Nashville, TN firm, as a partner and head of their Los Angeles office. When that office closed, he joined the Dykema Gossett firm from which he retired for his practice of law in 2012. Lee was a member of the California Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American College of Trial Lawyers, and Scribes; a member of the board of Temcor of Gardena, the Hiller Aviation Museum of San Carlos, and a part owner of Scaled Composites of Mojave; a longtime member of the Palos Verdes Golf Club. He loved flying, old cars, golf, skiing, and especially visiting his vacation home in Lake Almanor, CA. He helped so many people, was caring and generous, and was always the life of the party. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his sons, Jeffry and Robert; and his 4 grandchildren. Donations, if desired, may be sent to the Lewy Body Association.
