Conrad was born on March 7, 1879 on the family farm in rural Bellevue, Iowa the son of Johann L. and Anna (Schmidt) Ernst. He married Theresia Kolker on November 23, 1904 in Bellevue and they had five children; two boys and three girls. He was a farmer, a well-respected member of this community and a lifelong resident.
He was preceded in death by his parents Johann and Anna Ernst; one son Norbert, and one daughter Rosalia who both died in infancy; and two brothers, John (Dorothy) Ernst and Frank (Rose) Ernst. He is survived by: one son, Vernon (Augusta) Ernst of Bellevue; and two daughters, Viola (Benjamin) Kueter of Bellevue, and Joan (Lavern) Wagner of Quincy, Illinois; three brothers Edward (Mary) Ernst of Bellevue, Fritz Ernst of Bellevue, and Tony (Armella) Ernst of Bellevue; and one sister Elizabeth (John) Chretien of Oakland, California; and 17 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family. He was laid to rest beside his loving wife Theresia in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. May he rest in eternal peace.
