A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Maisie Bird died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000. She was 95 and a native of Brusly. Before retiring from the city-parish Health Unit, she was a homemaker, and in her early years taught elementary education in a one-room school house near Luling. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, with recitation of the rosary at 10 a.m. Visiting at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Brusly, 1:30 p.m. until religious services at 2:30 p.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Donald Blanchard. Entombment in St. John the Baptist Mausoleum. Survived by a son, Edward A. Bird III and his wife Terri S. Bird of Pierre Part; a daughter, Maisie Bird Barra and her husband Richard J. Barra of Lafayette; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Bird, Jr.; two daughters, Barbara Bird Richard and Diane Bird Verbois; two sisters, Eta Gauthreaux and Seessel Peavy; a brother, Wesley Blanchard; parents, Armand and Dionne Landry Blanchard, and a grandson, Allen Richard. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. She was a 1922 graduate of Brusly High School, a past member of Third Order of Mary, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and Sacred Heart Altar Society. She was a devout Catholic and was committed to her faith all of her life. [Unknown Source]
