V. Thomas Shaw, 84, of West Fargo, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo.

Tom Shaw was born May 25, 1932 at Elgin, ND, the son of Vernon and Letha (Castle) Shaw. He graduated from high school in Tuttle, ND, and began a 42 year career with Northern Pacific Railroad and Burlington Northern Railroads, first as a telegrapher and finally as a Trainmaster. Tom married Luella Fetzer on June 19, 1949 at the English Lutheran Church in Tuttle, ND. The couple lived in various places during his working years. In 2004, they moved to Fargo to be near family.

Tom liked to hunt, swim, bowl and was a member of the Lions Club. He loved to learn and was an avid reader, enjoyed geography and talking to people. Tom taught youth and adult Sunday school classes and was a Cub and Boy Scout leader.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Luella; son: Rodney (Marilyn); daughters: Penny (Roger) Paulsberg and Cindy (Greg) Gust; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters: Cleone Swanner and Margaret Kraft; brother: Ronald (Sharon) Shaw; numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Clifford Shaw.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3pm followed by a 3:00 p.m.

Memorial Service, Friday, October 7, 2016 at West Funeral Home Chapel in West Fargo.

Burial will be in the Tuttle Cemetery in Tuttle, ND
