LaRee Yvonne Griffith, 54, died Wednesday at her home in Crabtree. The angels have now guided her through heaven's gate, following a battle to recover from a stroke and related complications.

She was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Harley and Dorthy Griffith. LaRee's first years were spent in Iowa. The family moved to Oregon when she was three. She lived with her family in Philomath, Corvallis and finally Albany. In 2000, she moved to Lynn House Adult Foster Home in Albany.

She attended Fairview Training Center for a short time. She worked for many years at Center Enterprises Inc., a work activity center, doing assembling work, and finally at Alternative Services Inc., doing the same type of work in addition to some grounds keeping.

She was a member of The Arc of Linn County and enjoyed the social activities that they supported. LaRee loved music of all kinds, especially church hymns. She enjoyed people watching, especially babies. Though she was a woman of few words, her hazel eyes spoke volumes when she was happy. She found great joy in rocking out to music, pictures of herself, balloons and helping out where she could.

Surviving family members include her parents; brothers Jim and Larry Griffith of Albany; nephew Jonathon Griffith of Albany; and niece Rosealee Macfarland of Oklahoma.

Brother Carl Griffith, her grandparents, and several aunts and uncles preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be Tuesday at the First Evangelical Church, 1332 First Ave. N.E., in Albany.

McHenry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
