She was born in Guyton, Georgia on May 7, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Hattie and Sheriff Hubert Carr of Springfield.
As an infant, she and her family were baptized at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she remained àn active member the remainder of her life. At Holy Trinity she taught Sunday school, served on church council, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Lutheran Church Women from the age of 18.
Nita,as she was known, graduated from Effingham Academy in Springfield. She also graduated from Savannah Vocational College in 1969, fulfilling a lifetime dream of being a nurse. She worked at the Effingham County Hospital when it was first opened. She then worked for Dr Ray Webb until he retired. After that she worked for Dr Jesus Cornell and Dr Joseph Ratchford until she retired at the age of 76.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted son, Del Obery Edwards, her beautiful granddaughter, Katie Seckinger, her son-in-law, Charlie Seckinger, and her sisters, Dorothy C. Adams and Louise C. Harriott.
Nita was also an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, so at her request you are asked to wear red to commemorate the celebration of her life.
Visitation will be from 1pm to 3pm Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, followed by the service at 3 and burial at the Springfield Cemetery Annex.
