AZLE, TX - Services to celebrate the life of George F. "Pete" Horton, 82, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2006, in the Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Haughton, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Pierce. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive guests between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Pete was born on February 22, 1924 to the late Lovic F. and Mary E. Horton, and entered into rest on Saturday, December 16, 2006.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army as a Parachute Combat Rifleman in the 101st Airborne. His tour of duty included but was not limited to the Pacific Asian Theatre in Japan. He then later retired from Gulf Oil Co. in Ft. Worth, TX. Pete was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an inspired inventor, having invented and patented the "Easy Lift" and "Quick Kill". He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Lakeside in Ft. Worth, TX. and Cypress Baptist Church in Benton, LA. More than these accomplishments, he was first and foremost a follower of Jesus Christ, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Pete was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maude V. Horton; parents; brother, Shelly Horton; and sister, Virginia Smith. Left to honor his memory are his sons, George L. Horton and wife, Beth of Azle, TX. and Charles F. Horton and wife, JoAnn of Bastrop, TX.; daughter, Debra F. Vaughan and husband, Larry of Azle, TX.; sister, Ethel Pollard of Sulphur, LA.; brother, Jerry Horton and wife, JoAnn of Benton, LA.; grandchildren, Tracy Horton Smith, Nathan Vaughan, Natalie Vaughan Walley, Julie Wright, Deanna Gillenwater, Lindsey Thibodaux, and Amanda Horton; and five great-grandchildren.
