Emily Jean Griffin, 87, of Zillah died October 4, 2016 at Cottage in the Meadow Yakima. Emily was born July 5, 1929 in Walla Walla, to Alfred and Rose (Fanciullo) Curcio. Emily grew up on the farm, attended Catholic schools and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1947. She attended business college in Walla Walla and later YVC.

She married Hubert Griffin August 10, 1952 in St. Francis of Assisi Church in Walla Walla. Their marriage spanned nearly 64 years.

In 1963 the family moved when Hubert was transferred to Yakima by the Washington National Guard.

Emily worked as an office manager, bookkeeper and receptionist for physicians in Walla Walla and later in Yakima and Selah. She stayed active in her faith, being a founding member of Our Lady of Lourdes in Selah. After retirement they moved to Zillah to be closer to the grandchildren and their activities. She then became a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.

Emily liked to read, do puzzles, play games and cards and watch the grandkids’ sports. She enjoyed shopping for special gifts her family; but most of all loved to visit with family and friends.

Emily was preceded in death by Hubert, her parents, sisters Mae and Madelyn and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins in the Italian community of Walla Walla.

Emily is survived by children John (Diana) Griffin of Zillah, Jean (Kelly Schmidt) of Friday Harbor, grandchildren Jeff (Kara) Griffin of Missoula, MT, Jennifer (Eric) Weisgerber of Pasco and great granddaughters Brooklyn and Brynn Weisgerber.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Resurrection Church or Cottage in the Meadow.

Recitation of the rosary will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 6 pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Zillah Cemetery. Condolences can be left for the family at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
