Russell Ueland was born on May 14, 1929 in the rural Viking, MN area. He was the son of Ole Ueland and Florence Ranum Ueland.

As a child he attended Columbus School in rural Viking. He graduated in 1947 from Newfolden High School in Newfolden, MN.

He served our country in the United States Marine Corps from December 1947 until his honorable discharge in December 1951. He was stationed in Guam and in California. Russell also served in the Merchant Marines where he spent time on the Great Lakes for 6 years.

He was united in marriage to Marian Powell. Together they had two daughters, Roberta Marie (Bobbi) and Andrea Lee (Andi). Russell and Marian later divorced in the early 1960's.

He was employed in security work in South Beloit, IL and also worked as a fishing guide near Grand Marais, MN.

Russell enjoyed reading, dancing, visiting, along with driving and sight-seeing in the country. He also enjoyed long phone calls with close family members and always remembered them with cards on their birthdays. Throughout life, he and his daughter, Bobbi, corresponded regularly.

Russell is survived by his daughter, Andrea Lee Zickrick, Grand Marias, MN; sister, Frances (Orville) Skadsem, Thief River Falls, MN; sister-in-law, Jackie Ueland of Beloit, WI; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Roberta Marie Ueland Brown and her husband, Chris; his father, Ole Ueland and mother, Florence Ranum Ueland; his sister, Leona Ueland Ranum; brother, Donald Ueland; and nephew Timothy Ranum.

Funeral services were held at 11:00AM on Thursday September 29, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Service Thief River Falls MN with Reverend Frank Ehling Officiating. His niece, Cathy Halstensgaard read at the service. Niece Jodi Anderson and her daughter, Natalie Anderson sang.

Russell now rests in eternal peace with his parents at Rindal Cemetery rural Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
