Russell W. McConnell was born July 23, 1925 in Nixa, Missouri, the son of Hobert and Lydia (Inman) McConnell. He passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in El Paso, TX. Russell graduated from Nixa High School in 1943 and was married to Peggy Shumate for 61+ years. He was a member of Nixa Christian Church.
Two children were born to this union, Dwayne and Jolene. Russell was a life member of Nixa American Legion, being a charter member for over 60 years. He was also a life member of the San Juan Masonic Lodge, a life member of Al Amin Shriners of Corpus Christi, TX, and life member of Military Purple Heart Association. Russell was a WWII Army veteran and worked for 29 years for the US Postal Service and Army Reserve. He retired from the Postal Service in 1985.He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his wife Peggy, a brother Tommy, and a brother Roy. Survivors include a son, Dwayne and wife Anne; a daughter Jolene and husband Kerry; a grandson Daniel Jackson; sister Sue Harp; niece Cheryl Pruitt; nephew Kevin Harp; nephew Chad McConnell; sister-in-law Dorothy McConnell; brother-in-law John Shumate; sister-in-law Altha Klepper.
Burial in McConnell Cemetery.
