Born June 21, 1939 in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of John and Cora (Groene) Walker. She was raised and received her education west of Arkansas City, attending Lone Star Elementary School and graduating from Geuda Springs High School. After school, she began working at Boeing in Wichita.
Betty was united in marriage to Merle Bahruth on May 11, 1963 at the First Presbyterian Church in Arkansas City. The couple made their home west of Arkansas City. In 1974, Betty began working for Cessna, where she remained for over 12 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, working outdoors and especially loved keeping the grandkids. Mr. Bahruth preceded her in death on June 13, 2008.
Her family includes: Her sons: Greg Bahruth and wife, Ginger of Arkansas City; Russ Bahruth of Arkansas City; Her daughters: Tammy Dvorak and husband, Tad of South Haven; Sandy Short and husband, Ben of Winfield; Her brothers: Paul Walker of Arkansas City; Joe Walker of Arkansas City; Her grandchildren: Tipton Wayne Holloway, Candace Holloway-Combs, Cassandra June Dvorak, Coltin Dvorak, Cade Dvorak, Cabrie Dvorak, Bret Short and Piper Short; Her great grandchildren: Tripp Holloway and Brennan Combs; and Numerous nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Doug Walker and James Melvin Walker and two sisters, Loretta Walton and Patricia McGinn.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private burial will take place at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Betty’s name for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
