Ruth Ann was born June 28, 1940 at her home in Seneca, MO to Burton Lankford and Dott Ruby Elizabeth (Jonsson) McCorkell. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1957. On September 6, 1957 , at her parent's home, she married Billy Vearl Able. For the next 30 years Ruth Ann enjoyed feeding the kids on the livestock judging teams Bill coached from N.E.O., the University of Kentucky and Kansas state. Her friends and family referred to her as "the hostess with the mostess".
Ruth Ann worked as the manager at Woody's Ladies Shop, secretary of Golden Cattle Sales and office manager at Llama Banner-Able Publishing all in Manhattan, KS. In addition she served as Hostess for Mississippi Hospitality Contest and was V.P. in the M.S.U. Women's Club. She was also an active member and officer in New Neighbors in Starkville, MS and Kansas City, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Marilyn Lahar.
Ruth Ann is survived by her husband Bill of the home, her son Douglas Able and wife Lori and granddaughter Alexa Able all of Manhattan, KS, a brother William McCorkell and wife Dixie, and a sister Marcia Enyart all of Wyandotte.
Celebration of Life Services will be Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the All Saints' Episcopal Church in Miami, OK. Rev. Mary Koppel will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Able family home in Miami, OK. Memorials are suggested to the Billie Pearl Able Scholarship Fund @ NEO A&M College. Services have been placed in the care of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
