Helen Forbes Salomon is the mother of Clarence McKenzie Lewis (1876-1959) with her first husband Henry Lewis. Clarence McKenzie Lewis was a trustee of the NY Botanical Garden and donated his library to the NYBG library in 1953. He established the NJ Botanical Garden in Ringwood, Passaic County, NJ. He built Skylands Manor designed by John Russell Pope. Helen worked on the decor of the Skylands Manor home. Helen and Clarence contributed to the gardens designed by Feruccio Vitale and Alfred Geiffert. NJ purchased the property in 1966 and it is now the official botanical garden of the state. Helen is the paternal grandmother of Barbara Lewis Zinsser and Clarence McKenzie Lewis, Jr. Helen married second in 1892 to William Jones Salomon (1852-1919). William J. Salomon died Sunday, 14 Dec 1919, at his home in NYC.
