Funeral services for Mr. Daniel “D.A.” Dowies, Jr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Palestine Baptist Church, Grant , with Reverend Hardy Estes officiating. Interment will follow in Palestine Cemetery, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Mr. Dowies, 87, of Grant, entered eternal rest on Sunday, October 2, 2016 in Alexandria, LA.
He was a deacon at Palestine Baptist Church and a retired deputy for the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was in the cattle business for many years and had a great love for beagles and fox hounds.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Cady) Dowies; his parents, Daniel and Corda Dowies; three sisters, Gladys Penninger, Lillian Sassone and Zelma Stewart and one brother, Kirby Dowies.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his two sons, Danny Dowies and his wife, Cynthia, of Mittie and Don Dowies and his wife, Judy, of Grant; two daughters, Patricia Dowies Smith, of Grant and Carolyn Dowies Deshotels and her husband, Errol, of Oberlin; thirteen grandchildren, thirty four great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Friends may call Palestine Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Visitation will reopen on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.
