Memorial services for Willie B. Vaughn Jr. were held Thursday in the Benson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Rev. Samuel Craig and Rev. El Hajj Levell officiating. Burial with military honors was in the El Reno Cemetery. Services were conducted by Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
After fighting a long battle with cancer, Willie went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 24 at Mercy Hospital El Reno. Willie was born and raised in El Reno. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1959 at the age of 17. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army, retiring as a sergeant with 22 years of service including 16 years of overseas duty. He also retired as a civilian worker from Tinker Air Force Base.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie B. Vaughn Sr., and a sister, Sue Esther Fuston.
He is survived by his mother, Verna Vaughn of Adelanto, Calif.; four brothers, Addison L. Vaughn and wife, Elizabeth of Los Angeles, Calif., Lee Stanley Vaughn and wife, Tammy of Los Angeles, Jerome Vaughn and wife, Jill of Victorville, Calif., and Lu Rue Vaughn and wife, Inetha Vaughn of El Reno; two sisters, Norma J. Lyles and husband, Eric Lyles of Adelanto, Calif., and Lillie P. Howard and husband, Rev. Dr. John H. Howard of Elizabeth, N.J.; his wife, Lois Vaughn of the home; son, Antonitis Vaughn of Tulsa; daughters, Sonia Word and Cindy Bennett, both of Orlando, Fla., and Jacqueline Ussery of Dumfries, Va.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
