He was a veteran of the US Army and was a faithful member of Dennyville Baptist Church. Mr. Wells loved his church, his family, and enjoyed hunting.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wells was preceded in death by a son, Doug Wells; a brother, Joe Wells; and a sister, Jean Hopkins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carolyn “Gayle” Rhyne Wells; three daughters, Joan (Russell) Sparks, Susan (James) Prevette, and Carrie (Wesley) Prevette; six grandchildren, Seth (Lindsey) Prevette, Amber (Dolphin) Overton, Hayden Prevette, Rachel Prevette, Josiah Sparks, and Abram Sparks; four great grandchildren, Kylee Reynolds, Macanna Prevette, Walker Prevette, and Oakley Overton; one sister, Barbara Thompson; and one brother, Paul (Judy) Wells.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 4:00pm at Dennyville Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Riley and Rev. Larry McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
