Dennis was a graduate of Gastonia High School and shortly after graduation enlisted in the US Navy where he served honorably in the Korean War. When he returned from service, he earned his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from N.C. State University. He was co-owner of Fox and Ritter, Inc. and later owner and operator of Fox Engineering. During his career, he served Lowell, Dallas, Ranlo, and Bessemer City as City Engineer, specializing in water and sewer treatment. It is said that if you had a sip of water or flushed a toilet in these towns during his tenure, you could thank Dennis. He was also the Resident Engineer for the construction of Moss Lake when he was with W.K. Dickson Co. of Charlotte. Dennis served as Chairman of the Gaston County Board of Health. Dennis and his wife Wanda were charter members of Christ United Methodist Church where he was active for 34 years as President of the United Methodist Men and Chairman of the Trustees. He was a wonderful husband, loving father and grandfather, and a great person.
Dennis is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years,two daughterers and sons-in-law; a son and daughter-in-law, a brother and his wife; 6 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Kay Setzer, and brother William Edward Fox.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 1:00pm to 2:45pm in the Sanctuary of Christ United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00pm at the church with Pastor Matt Morris officiating. Interment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park.
