Robert Allen Bodine, 57, died at home after an eight-month battle with bladder cancer. He was adopted at birth by Robert A. and Jane Williams Bodine. He attended schools in Wynnewood and Radnor, PA, and earned his GED. He continued his education at Prince George's Community College in Landover, MD, from which he graduated with an associate's degree in liberal arts in 1990.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam war, where he was an air traffic controller attached to the Americal Division. After his military service, he was employed by The Complete Strategist, a gaming store retail chain in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia and Maryland. He married Martha Montague on May 5, 1984, in Alexandria, VA. He retired in 1985 to be the primary caregiver for his three children, Rachel Elizabeth, William Robert, and James Kambaya Bodine.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Dalton. He also was a reader of history and science fiction, and was a member of The Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia, a medieval reenactment and educational organization in Maryland.
