COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Virginia McMillan Reid, 81, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 3, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Boyce Chapel with a private burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in Ellis Hall. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Reid died Saturday, October 1, 2016. Born on May 22, 1935 in Sumter, SC, she was the daughter of the late Wilson Eugene McMillan and Irene Dixon McMillan.

Virginia was a graduate of Edmunds High School in Sumter, SC, Class of 1953. She attended Winthrop College and graduated in 1957. In 1987, she received her nursing degree from the USC School of Nursing. She worked as an RN at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital. She retired from nursing when diagnosed with cancer. At the time of her death she was a 25 year cancer survivor. Virginia was an active member of First Baptist Church of Columbia, where she sang in the choir and was a member of Bible Survey Sunday School Class, as well as a member of a weekly women’s Bible study group.

Virginia will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Everyone knew her for her lovely homemade cards and for her relationship with Jesus Christ, as she served others often giving of her time and talents. She enjoyed playing the organ and the piano, and she loved to tell how she went skydiving twice at the ages of 65 and 70.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph Haralson Reid; son, Joseph H. “Joe” Reid, Jr. (Bonnie) of Wichita, KS; daughter, Kathleen Cliver (James) of Roebuck; granddaughters, Ashley Reid Cox (Jordan), Amanda Cliver Galloway (Ian), Rachel Cliver, Natalie Cliver; and great-grandson, Cooper Cox.
