Elmer White Ray, Jr., 82, of Brady, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, in San Angelo. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 7, from 12-2 p.m., at Heritage Funeral Home, with funeral services immediately following at 2 p.m. in Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady. Elmer was born Feb. 13, 1930, in Annona, to Elmer White Ray, Sr., and Fannie Willie (Coffman) Ray. He married Barbara Henderson, Aug. 3, 1947, in Abilene. They moved to Brady from Gardendale 35 years ago. Elmer attended the Rochelle Baptist Church. Elmer was a route salesman for various companies over the years. He was also an accomplished steel guitar player, having played for the last 55 years. Elmer loved gospel music and enjoyed sharing that love and his talent with others. He spent many hours playing for various charity events and at local area senior citizen centers. Anytime you saw him play, there was a smile on his face. Elmer loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by friends and family alike.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard (Rick) Ray and one brother, Thomas Ray. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ray of Brady; three daughters, Linda Jones and husband, Durwood, of Buchanan Dam, Sharon Ray, of Austin, and Cindy O’Connor and husband, Jim, of Austin; one brother, Rev. David Ray and wife, Pat, of Ridgeland, Miss.; one sister, Nina Lewallen and husband, Lou, of Bryan; seven grandchildren, Tara VanSteenburgh and husband, David, Krista Brunson and husband, Jonathan, Jennifer Delgado, Jerod Long and wife, Kourtney Dylan Delgado Brooke McCrary and husband, Roy, Jr. and Megan Long and 14 great-grandchildren.
