Margie Juanita Shields died tragically at the tender age of 17 years. Her sister, Edith, sadly described her to me as shy, beautiful and very intelligent. She was born in Kern County, California to Grace Golden and James Albert Shields. Juanita was 6 years old when her father was killed. She had a younger sister, Edith and a brother, James Henry Shields who was not yet born when their father died. She also had half siblings Sherman, Florence, Rachel and Jodie. She and her siblings and mother had a hard life of poverty and violence at the hand of Albert Shields.
Three years later their mother met and married Avery Stephen Fields and moved to Shell Knob, Missouri. Her half siblings remained motherless and fatherless in California. Margie Juanita did not heal from her life in California and was unable to ever find happiness or inner peace. Her early death was a great loss for her family.
