Willard Appleby of Stovepipe Road, who worked a farm his family had run for two centuries, died Sunday at his home. He was 70. Appleby was a president and sexton for Onesquethaw Cemetery in Ciarksville for the past 25 years, and an elder of Ciarksville Community Church, where he served on the building committee. He was also a member of
Clarksville Grange and a charter and life member of the Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Dept, serving on the board of directors. Survivors include his wife, Clara Morey Appleby; four sons, Gary, Robert and Andy, all of Clarksville and Peter of Ocala, Fla.; three daughters, Alma Appleby of Clarksville, Nancy Dobiel of Colonie and Mary Cole of Ravena; two brothers, Leo Appleby of Coeymans Hollow and Donald Appleby of Ciarksville; four sisters, Harriet Ross and Rita Stott, both of Rensselaer, Elena Ross of Florida and Pauline Zupan of Selkirk; 21 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services were held yesterday in Clarksville Community Church, with burial in Onesquethaw Cemetery under the direction of Applebee Funeral Home in Delmar. Contributions may be made to Onesquethaw Fire Co. or Clarksville Community Church memorial fund.
