Barbara Chapman

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that her family announce the passing of Barbara Ann Miller Chapman, 78, of Jennings, LA, who died September 30, 2016, surrounded by family at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of 58 years to Stanley Carol Chapman.

Barbara was born in Evangeline, LA to the late Morris & Eva Bergeaux Miller on September 14, 1938. She was a graduate of Iota High School and the Louisiana School of Beauty Culture. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to their care. Barbara enjoyed quilting and was a past member of the Cajun Country Quilt Guild. She was also a past member of the OLHC Catholic Church choir. In their retirement years she and Carol traveled all over the country, Barbara making Carol stop at every farm stand along the way. They loved spending summers in Connecticut with their grandchildren and winters in Arizona. She loved to cook and was always on a mission looking for some exotic ingredient for a recipe, taking Carol overseas through the meals she prepared. Her perfect vacation destination was a trip to a specialty or international grocery store. She was kind and gentle and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her beloved husband, Carol, she is survived by her three loving children, Debra (Mark) Leaverton of Meriden, CT, Sandra Smith of Humboldt, KS and Michael Chapman of Baton Rouge, LA; her brother, Aulden "Blackie" (Dorsaline) Miller of Lacassine, LA; four adored grandchildren, Ryan, Lindsey and Rachel Leaverton and Allison Smith. She also leaves her nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and many beloved friends behind. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Evelyn LeBeouf and brother, Milton Miller.

Funeral Services for Barbara Chapman will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings, LA on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 10:00 AM with Reverend Charles McMillin officiating. Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 10:00 PM with a rosary recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday at 8:00 AM until the time of her funeral service. Barbara will be laid to rest in Calvary Mausoleum.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Michael Cain and Allison Bertrand of the Cancer Center of Acadiana and Harbor Hospice for their compassionate care and friends for all their support and prayers.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews & Son Funeral Home.
