Major League Baseball Player. A pitcher, he was the Most Valuable Player of the 1959 World Series. He had two wins, no losses, two saves and an 0.71 ERA, leading the Dodgers past the Chicago White Sox in six games to win the World Series only two years after the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn. Sherry had a 53-44 lifetime record with a 3.67 ERA in 400 relief appearances and 16 starts. He pitched for the Dodgers from 1958-63, and later played for the Tigers, Astros and Angels before retiring in 1968. He had a career-high 20 saves for the Tigers in 1966. Following his playing career Sherry was the pitching coach for the Angels and Pirates, and was a minor league manager in the White Sox organization. He was the brother of Norm Sherry, who played in the major leagues for five seasons and later coached and managed with the Angels, Expos, Padres, and Giants.
