Peoria - Susan J. Knight, 85, passed away at Riverview Senior Living Facility in East Peoria on Thursday, September 29, 2016.
Susan was born September 15, 1931 in Burlington, Iowa a daughter of Martin and Louise (Schulte) Bertlshofer. She graduated from St. Paul’s Central High School in Burlington, IA in 1949 and received a Nursing Diploma from the St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria, IL in 1953. She married James P. Knight on October 2, 1954 in Burlington, IA.
Susan had a kind and gentle spirit that very well suited her long career in nursing at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She loved being out doors, especially flower gardening and taking long walks, enjoying God’s natural beauty. Above all, Susan was devoted to caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always putting others before herself. She was a long time member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, James, four children; Jane (James) Hutchinson of O’Fallon, MO, James (Kathryn) Knight of Mesa AZ, Patricia Isit of Bartonville, IL, and David (Molly) Knight of Peoria, IL, four grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and four great-grandchildren. Susan is also survived by two siblings, Roseanne DeGraw of Laguna Niguel, CA and Philip (Miriam) Bertlshofer of Roswell, NM.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Louis Bertlshofer.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 3, 2016, 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Wright and Salmon Mortuary, with a scripture service starting at 6:45 PM. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with a half hour prior visitation. Fr. James Pallardy will be officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria, IL.
