Grace Waddell Wright
APRIL 16, 1923 – DECEMBER 4, 2012
Winston-Salem- Mrs. Grace Waddell Wright, 89, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. A memorial service will be at 1 PM on Friday, December 7, at College Park Baptist Church with Reverend Ramon Smith, Dr. Charles Edwards and Reverend Christa Warise officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Smith Hall.

Mrs. Wright was born in Fair Bluff, NC to the late Charles and Gussie Williamson Waddell. After high school she attended Queen’s Business College in Raleigh. When she was with the civil service she met and married Willis Morse Wright in 1943. After his retirement from the US Marine Corp they moved to Winston-Salem in 1960. Together they have traveled extensively whether for the military or for leisure. They joined College Park Baptist Church where Mrs. Wright has been extremely active. She sang in the senior women’s choir, the Grace Notes, and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union. She expressed her heart and service to others by participating in the Holy Rollers which for over twenty years visited Brookridge Baptist Retirement Home and served the residents who were wheel chair bound. She and Mr. Wright served with Meals on Wheels for over twenty years. She was also served as pianist at Temple Baptist Church in New Bern, NC. She will be remembered by her friends and neighbors as one who would cook for the sick or bereaved and always shared her beautiful roses with others. She had many friends who loved her for her kind and generous heart. Her love for her family was her true joy. She always remembered the grandchildren’s favorite treats and had them ready when they came to visit. She was an active participant in all their activities and truly enjoyed spoiling them.

She is survived by her husband of almost seventy years and their four daughters, Gayle Hartgrove of Winston-Salem, Lynn (Steve) Boyles of Rural Hall, Barbara (Don) Peiffer of Rural Hall and Kim (Charlie) Jones of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren, Tracy (Carl) Lindner, Jody (Marcia) Boyles, Keri (Brad) Pettit, Ryan Hartgrove, Kathryn Boyles, Brett (Erin) Peiffer, Byron Peiffer, Taylor Jones and Brooke Jones; six great-grandchildren; sister, Doris (Millis) Wright; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to College Park Baptist Church, 1701 Polo Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
