Roberta Blum Arnold, known as "Bobbie", died at home on May 31, 2014. She was 88. Mrs. Arnold was born in Biltmore, NC on May 23, 1926 to Roberta Brooks Blum and Frederick Blum. Her father died when she was one. Her mother moved to West Palm Beach in 1935 and married Paul Sundgren. She attended Palm Beach High School, Saint Mary's College in Raleigh, NC and the Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati. During World War II, she served as a candy striper student nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and Good Samaritan. Mrs. Arnold was a volunteer physical therapist at the Crippled Children's Home, now the Rehabilitation Center for Children & Adults, and a primary Sunday School teacher at the First Methodist Church in West Palm Beach. She was a member of the Junior League of the Palm Beaches, the Tangerines, a sewing group of life long friends, and the Royal Poinciana Chapel. She enjoyed gardening and caring for the family orchid collection. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James Y. Arnold, Jr., her four children, James Y. Arnold III, Paige A. Benjamin, F. Brooks Arnold, and Laurie A. Host, her nine grandchildren, James Y. Arnold IV, Kathleen B. Emmett, William E. Benjamin IV, Katherine A. Wolf, Amanda B. Arnold, Grace Arnold, Elizabeth A. Host, Brooks G. Host, and Paige L. Host, and two great-grandchildren, James Wolf and Anabelle Arnold. A service will be private.
