Josie Amelia Kinsey Cummings

Josie Amelia Kinsey Cummings, age 102, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in Gatesville, Texas. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville with burial following at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the funeral.
Josie was born on December 20, 1913 to the late George and Tinie Bell Taylor Kinsey in the community of Boaz in Coryell County, Texas. She attended country schools until her senior year and then graduated from Gatesville High School. She worked for Joe Hanna Department Store while attending High School. She went to work for Leaird’s Department Store in 1956 in Ladies Ready to Wear and retired in 1984.

Josie Kinsey married Winfred “Windy” Cummings on September 30, 1933. Josie and Windy lived at what has become Ft. Hood. When Ft. Hood was established, they moved into Gatesville. Windy took office as Sheriff of Coryell County on January 1, 1953, and they lived in the old Coryell County Jail for almost his entire career. Josie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gatesville for longer than anyone can remember.

Josie was preceded in death by an infant son, Johnny Earl Cummings, who is buried at North Ft. Hood; husband, Winfred “Windy” Cummings; and her brothers, Taylor, Vincent, Seth, G.W., and Troy.

Josie is survived by a sister, Zell Copeland of Belton; a daughter, Jeanne Cohagan and husband, Harold of Gatesville; a son, Fred Cummings and wife, Connie (Marshall) of Lampasas; grandson, Jody Cummings and wife, Renee’ of Lampasas; granddaughters, Wendy Pray and husband, Darin of Lewisville and Casey Cummings Smart and husband, Kevin of Lampasas; great-grandchildren, Jordan Cummings, Mykenzie Cummings, Macy (Cohagan) Baugus, Kenedi Smart, and Caybree Smart.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 912 E. Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.

Josie’s family would like to thank the staff at The Meadows in Gatesville for their many years of excellent care.
