Jay D. Martin, 88, passed away on Tuesday September 27, 2016 at the Kentuckiana Medical Center in Clarksville, Indiana.
He was born on May 22, 1928 in the small town of Palmyra, Indiana to the late Grover and Rosenia Martin. Jay honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired from K&I Railroad after 32 years of employment. Jay was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Sellersburg, a member of the American Legion post 204, and a member of the St. Paul Mens Club. Jay enjoyed working at his T.V. repair business.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his son David L. Martin, his sister Alma Haub, and his brother Palmer Martin.
Jay is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Helen Martin, Sellersburg; son Douglas Martin, Louisville; daughters Diana (Joseph) Roberts, Sellersburg, Debra LaCour, Memphis, Indiana, Denise (Mike) Hammer, Columbus, Indiana, Dawn (John) Frakes, Florida; sister, Irma Watkins, New Albany, Indiana; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Paul Campus) with interment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg.
