Fred served in the United States Army, Tank Division, during World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1945. He worked for the Army Depot for 20 years and then with the Dept. of Public Works for the City of Saratoga Springs. He retired from the DPW after another 20 years of working. Fred enjoyed coin collecting, fishing and making clocks.
In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his loving wife, Gertrude (Suttle) Carpenter; his son, Charles W. Carpenter, Sr. and two brothers, Charlie and John Carpenter. Survivors include his sons, Frederick T. (Geraldine) Carpenter, III of Saratoga Springs and Randy J. (Cindy) Carpenter of Husdon Falls; one daughter, Linda O'Melia of Saratoga Springs; his sister Elizabeth Allen of Saratoga Springs; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8pm Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A funeral home service will be at 10am Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 and burial will follow in the family plot at Maplewood Cemetery, Saratoga Springs.
