Lawrence D. "Duane" McCawley, 83, of Kankakee, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at his home. He was born April 2, 1933 in Kankakee, the son of Lawrence Alvin & Isabelle DuBois McCawley.
Duane married Armeline Bertrand July 11, 1959 in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kankakee.
He was a 1951 graduate of St. Patrick High School in Kankakee. Duane retired from Roper Corporation, Kankakee Division, after 26 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed traveling, live theatre and movies, and had a remarkable recall of movie trivia.
Duane was a lifelong faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kankakee.
He is survived by his wife, Armeline McCawley; three daughters, Kathleen & Frank Brulc of Tulsa, OK, Kimberly & Roger Westman of Palm Springs, CA, Kristine & Tim Greve of Chicago; three sons, Kevin & Erin McCawley of Ft. Wayne, IN, Keith & Rick McCawley of Chicago, and Kyle McCawley of Kankakee. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Rebecca Greve, Audra Brulc, Patrick Greve, Megan McCawley, Tori Oglesby, Kayla McCawley, Julianna McCawley, Logan McCawley, Keegan McCawley, Aiden McCawley, and Cameron McCawley.
Duane is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence McCawley, who was killed in the Elwood Ordinance Explosion in 1942; his mother, Isabelle McCawley Johnson; his step-father, Lester Johnson; one granddaughter, Mary Isabelle; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marilyn & Daniel Clements and John & Emelda Bertrand; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. The funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kankakee. Rev. John Peeters will celebrate the mass.
Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
