Shirley M. (Bryant) Mordan, age 81, of 85 Columbia Hill Road, Danville, passed way at her home on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Valley Township on Dec. 17, 1934, at the home of her maternal grandparents, Montgomery and Daisy (Yeager) Confer in Mausdale, she was the only child of the late James and Mae (Confer) Bryant. She grew up in the home of her paternal grandparents, Charles Morgan and Mary (Welliver) Bryant on Whippoorwill Street in Frosty Valley.
Shirley attended the former Valley Township Consolidated School, where she made many childhood friends. As a teen, Shirley worked at Sunnybrook Park for the late Charles and Jenny Lewis, as did many other youths in the Danville area.
On July 7, 1951, she married her childhood sweetheart, Raymond F. Mordan, and he preceded her in death on June 15, 1998. Shirley was first and foremost a loving wife and mother.
During her working career, she was employed by the former Roselon Yarn Co.; the former TRW plant, and the Danville News, all in Danville.
Shirley was a confirmed member of the former St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mausdale, and later a member of the Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville, after her marriage. In later years, she attended St. Paul’s “Straub’s” Lutheran Church, Frosty Valley.
She will be sadly missed by her friends and family.
Shirley is survived by three children: Larry E. Mordan, and his wife, Susan; Kimber R. Mordan, and his wife, Frances; Gail Louise, wife of Charles Gregory, all of Danville; seven grandchildren: Jason Mordan, Brett Mordan, Tess Mordan, Ben Mordan, Marcie Kitka, Augusta Rosini, Sean Gregory; six great-grandchildren: John and Michael Mordan, Emma Varano, Grace, Maxx and Kole Kitka.
At Shirley’s request, the funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Straub’s Cemetery, Frosty Valley.
