Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Administration.
Carleton was born on September 22, 1932, in Muscatine, the son of Fred and Bernice Townsend Beckman. He married Rose Ann M. Wetzel on December 4, 1954, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death in June 27, 1995.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War.
He was a truck driver for Kraft Foods for 22 years and worked maintenance for Muscatine County Jail.
He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post #27.
He enjoyed collecting cans, treasure hunting, gardening, and getting together with friends at his home on Sundays for their fun BS discussions.
Those left to honor his memory include two sons, Steve Beckman Sr. and Mary Phillips, of Milan, Illinois; Carleton "Hank" Beckman and wife Kim, of Illinois City, Illinois; one daughter, Patricia "Patty" Steger and husband Mike, of Milan, Illinois; five grandchildren, Heidi Steger, Holli Ebizo and husband Kodjovi, Steve Beckman Jr. and wife Kristy, Ashley Beckman and Allison Beckman; four great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; four sister-in-law's, Linda Brugman of Muscatine, Berniece Beckman of Muscatine, Dorothy Wetzel, of Muscatine and Marion Wetzel, of Naperville, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two daughters, Barbara and Tina Beckman; one granddaughter Angel Steger; four brothers, Everett, Robert, Fred and Charles; three sisters, Margaret Krieger, Helen Maylone and Leona Wagner.
