Sylvia Unavay Rash, 89, of Grass Valley, Calif., passed away Monday, July 25, 2005. She was born April 5, 1916, in Brazos, Texas. As a child of the depression era, Sylvia lived in mining camp tents and one-room log cabins with no running water or electricity. She was married to James Nathan Rash, Sr., in Gunnison, Colo., July 27, 1937. Together they persevered and proudly raised five children in numerous states across the American west. The Rash's bought their first new home together in Las Vegas, in 1964. Sylvia was a proud resident of Las Vegas for over 40 years. She spent the last few years of her life in Port Hueneme, Calif., living with her daughter, Sylvia River. Sylvia was a most beloved mother and grandmother. She loved nothing more than to be at the helm of a large family gathering brimming with her children and grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Nathan Rash, Sr.; daughters, Etta Marquez and Judy Thompson; and son, James Nathan Rash, Jr. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Armenta River of Port Hueneme, Calif.; and her son, Ronnie D. Rash of Henderson. She is also survived by one sibling, Elva Eason of El Reno, Okla.; and all of her 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and six great great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas. Viewing will be held prior to the services at Palm Mortuary Chapel with times to be announced.
