Excerpt -- At his home near Oakland on Monday morning, December 11th, William Casteel, who was born June 8th, 1821, at the old homestead of the Casteel family near Hoyes, Garrett county, being a son of Nathaniel and Jane McMullan Casteel. Mr. Casteel was twice married, his first wife being Charlotte Jane Brant, by who he had five children, four of whom survive, viz: Margaret Ellen, wife of Stepehn Browning; Mary Martha, wife of Andrew B. Gonder; Elizabeth, wife of Dr. Bayard T. Keller; and D. T. E. Casteel, now a commissioner officer in the United States Army. Mr. Casteel was a very successful business man, being engaged in various enterprises during his lifetime, principally in farming and stock raising. His funeral took place yesterday, the interment being made at the old home of the deceased near Hoyes.

Excerpt -- In Orphan's Court Tuesday an order was passed appointing Mrs. Annie Casteel and Andrew B. Gonder administrators of the late William Casteel who died at his farm adjoining Oakland a few weeks ago. Mrs. Casteel is the widow of the deceased and Mr. Gonder is his son-in-law. The adult children are represented in the matter by Mr. G. S. Hamill and Mr. Thomas J. Peddicord is attorney for Mrs. Casteel and her minor son.
