Pamela K. Barnett, 57, Lawrence, KS (formerly of Atchison) died Tuesday, December 5, 2006, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Memorial services will at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Atchison, with Father Robert Harris. Ms. Barnett was cremated and burial of cremains will follow the service on Saturday in the Trinity Episcopal Memorial Garden.
Pam was born July 18, 1949 in Atchison, KS, the daughter of James and Wanda (Church) Barnett. She attended Atchison public schools and received a bachelor's degree in mathematics with a minor in education from Benedictine College in 1992. In 2005 she received a master's degree in Holistic Nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health. Ms. Barnett taught math at Mount Saint Scholastica Academy in Atchison and Lawrence High School in Lawrence, KS. She was an avid reader, enthusiastic dancer and enjoyed gardening.
For many years Ms. Barnett made contributions to Southern Poverty Law Center. In addition to providing information to educators to promote tolerance and racial equality, it tracks and monitors hate groups. It's legal department "fights all forms of discrimination and works to protect society's most vulnerable members."
Survivors include her children Jacob Clearwater and Whitney Clearwater, both of Lawrence, KS. Father James Barnett, Lawrence, KS (formerly of Atchison, KS). Stepchildren Kelly Kauffman, Topeka, KS, Brent Gordon, Denver, CO and two step-grandchildren. Pam was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Barnett in 2005 and brother, Jim, in 1993.
