Martha Lea Cooper was born June 8, 1923, in McCracken County, Ky., to the late Edward Richard Peyton and Maggie Lee Dillworth Peyton. She was a graduate of Heath High School and had worked at Magnavox Manufacturing. Martha was a faithful and longtime member of Harmony Baptist Church where she was an assistant Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and was a Vacation Bible School coordinator. She was an artist who created wood crafts and also wrote poetry. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.

Surviving are her children, Carol (Jack) Howle, Donna (Kent) Korte, Kenny Cooper and Chris Cooper; a sister, Edith (Raymond) DeBold; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Peyton, Frances Mundy and Elsie Cooper; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.H. “Son” Cooper; two sisters, Nina Wallace and Mary Stone; one brother, Paul Peyton; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Jewell Barrett and the Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Newton Creek Cemetery.
