Poet. Born Jacint Verdaguer i Santaló, he is considered Spain's most representative Catalan writer of the 19th Century. He contributed to the renaissance of Catalan language and culture from a Catholic and conservative position. His works include lyrical and epic poetry, prose, journalism and travel writings.
