Elizabeth "Lib" Collette Hamrick, age 87, died Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare Cleveland. Born in Ohio on May 7, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Orville and Zellie Martin Collette. Lib was a member of Ross Grove Baptist Church. Lib obtained her B.S in Physical Education from Appalachian State University, where she was a cheerleader and was a member of the synchronized swimming team and then she went back to Appalachian to obtain her Masters in Physical Education. After graduation, Lib taught Physical Education at Sacred Heart College in Belmont, Kings Mountain High School, and retired after 30 years from Shelby Junior High (Shelby Middle School). Lib was a member of the Neal Senior Center Red Hat Club, volunteered at Carolinas Healthcare-Cleveland and the Neal Senior Center, and was a member of several bridge clubs. Lib loved to participate in the Neal Center Senior Games and went on to participate in the State Senior games in Raleigh. In addition to her parents, Lib is preceded in death by her husband, Hilton Hamrick.
Lib is survived, her canine companion, "Lady"; many numerous cousins, and two special friends, Judy Latham and Joyce Bridges, both of Shelby.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Ross Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Marcus McGill officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the cemetery, following the service.
Lib is survived, her canine companion, "Lady"; many numerous cousins, and two special friends, Judy Latham and Joyce Bridges, both of Shelby.
