He was born April 3, 1929 in Waterloo, son of Maurice and Catheryn Rohrig Cunningham.
He married Margaret “Peggy” Weber on May 21, 1955 at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence.
Don was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 28 years, retiring in 1984 as a tool supervisor.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U. S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955.
Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Craig (Debbie) Cunningham of Waterloo and Maury (Mary) Cunningham of Lincoln, Nebraska; a daughter, Donna (Scott) Schneider of Dubuque; six grandchildren, one step-grandson, two great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; and a brother, Melvin Cunningham of Waverly.
Preceded in death by: his parents; and a sister, Jean Myers in 1997.
Services will be 10:30 Tuesday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with entombment in the Mt. Olivet Mausoleum, where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1623 and the U. S. Air Force Honor guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for one hour before services on Tuesday.
Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
